GEOSYSTEM Software is pleased to be an authorized reseller for Dataforensics' PLog PDA borehole/well logging software. PLog is a program for Palm-compatible PDAs that allows users to record data for soil boring and rock coring jobs, along with monitoring well and slope inclinometer installations.

Features

  • Log all of the data taken during the course of an exploratory boring, including the blow counts, sample lengths and types and stratigraphy layer changes, on your Palm-compatible PDA.

  • PLog's selection lists greatly simplify the data entry process: Use a PC to enter drillers' names, drilling methods, sampler types and well installation sections, then download the lists to PLog on your PDA. While you're entering boring log data on the PDA, pick your driller, method, sampler type and well installation selections from PLog's drop-down lists.

  • PLog can help you build your soil descriptions from drop-down list selections for the soil classification, consistency, color, constituents, angularity, moisture condition, etc., all without using the keyboard.

  • There's no need to enter complex soil descriptions more than once because PLog gives you the option to copy soil descriptions, even from previously-entered boring logs.

LD4 and PLog

Our LD4 boring log software now directly imports data from PLog through a very quick procedure:

    1. HotSync your PDA to import your PLog data into your PC.

    2. Start LD4 and open the LOGDRAFT project file that you've created for the project you've logged with PLog, or create a new project using "Project" > "New".

    3. After you have your project open, select "Tools" > "Import PLog Data".

That's it! Use LD4's source navigator to check each of your newly-imported borings for completeness, then hit the "Print" toolbar button and you're done.

Configuring LD4 for Use with PLog

PLog's drop-down "sampler type", "well construction" and "soil graphic" menus can be configured to use the same selections that are available when you enter an LD4 boring at your PC. This process involves exporting your LD4 legend symbols (such as the list of sampler types, the stratigraphy symbol selections and the well construction selections) into PLog. This process is painless: Start LD4, open a project file, select "Tools" > "Export Legend to PLog", then HotSync your PDA.

Optional Services

PLog gives you the option of entering a wide variety of data not typically found in an LD4-generated boring log. As part of PLog's default, out-of-the-box configuration, you'll find fields for entering:

datum description • coordinate system description • project engineer and manager • termination notes • test pit length, width, shoring support and stability • county • coordinate accuracy • abandonment method • shear vane style • FID, GRO, DRO and SOV environmental readings • inclinometer installation details • rock depth • rock type information (grain size, structure, staining, mineralology, etc.)

If you'd like to include some of this information on your existing boring log reports, consider having GEOSYSTEM Software recustomize your boring log forms to add the additional fields. The fee for this service is small (typically around $200), but the time savings over the alternative (customizing the boring logs yourself) can be significant.
