SHEAR Screen Shots

Shear's configuration dialog supports a number of data correction and reporting techniques

The program uses the newest support system and includes a table of contents, index and search facility

The program's Sample Info screen collects basic information about the test procedure and the sample tested

SHEAR incorporates a number of testing variations, including staged and drained tests.

Each SHEAR test may include data for up to four test specimens.

For triaxial tests, SHEAR calculates moisture, density, saturation and void ratio for initial, saturated and consolidated phases.

SHEAR supports both load ring (load ring constant or "Ax + B style) equipped compression frames as well as digital dialog gauge equipped frames. Support is also included for double (staged) style proving rings. The deformation dial divisor allows entry of deformation dial readings as whole numbers such as 1950 instead of decimal values like 0.1950.

Each specimens data entry screen includes a stress-strain chart, which can be handy for spotting obvious data entry problems.

For triaxial tests, SHEAR includes an on-screen preview of the specimens' Mohr's circles. (The blue circles represents total stress, while the red circles represent effective stress.) The tangent lines may be adjusted by dragging the (with the left mouse button down) either line end.

SHEAR also provides a p-q chart preview for triaxial tests.

Direct shear and ultimate failure vs. normal stress charts may also be previewed.

Preview the program's charts before printing. View is also enhanced by the magnifier.

SHEAR reports may be exported in Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) format. (This format is rapidly becoming the standard for Internet document distribution.) E-mail your reports to clients or post them to your own web site.

You can also add your SHEAR documents to a Microsoft Word document: from SHEAR, select "Edit"> "Copy Entire Test", then swap to Word and select "Edit">"Paste".

In addition to the chart report shown in previous screens, the program also generates a testing summary report.

You can also export your data as .XML files. These may be viewed with a web browser (like this screen shot shows) or read into Excel XP. These files are ideal for e-mailing raw testing to clients or for posting to a website.
